Freedom Writers

Last night we decided “the hell with it”. We got ourselves a movie and curled up in our chairs in front of the tube. It’s not something we do very often but last night, after what turned out to be another long day, we were too tired to do anything else but sit back and veg.

At the suggestion of my daughter Jody, we picked a movie that came out in the video stores only yesterday called “Freedom Writers”. It was fantabulous! A true story that speaks to the power of writing and what it can do for people. I absolutely loved it. At one thirty in the morning I was ready to head out the door to teach the writing classes I so love doing. I can’t wait to get my life back together so I can get on with what I want to do. At the pace things are going, I’m beginning to wonder if it’s ever going to happen.

No, we haven’t found a place yet. But yes, we have started packing. The house is adorned with a mixture of full and empty boxes strewn from one end of the house to the other. No matter which of the four levels you go on, you’re going to either walk into a box or trip over something if you don’t keep your eyes open and watch where you’re going.

It’s a challenging task as we sort out what little bit we can keep with us for now, what will go in the garage sale we’ve set up for this Saturday, what we will give away, what will go in the back of the storage unit, and what we might need to get into and needs to go to the front, depending on how long we’re without house and home.

Not having found a place at this late stage of the game, we’ve made alternate arrangements to go to when we hand over the keys for this place next Friday. Our neighbor has a 10X10 older type holiday trailer which we will rent from him and which he will set up for us here in town in the Kinsmen Park. The Park charges $500 a month and will allow us to stay there as long as it’s not longer then two months. Surely to God the Universe will have provided us with a place to move to by then.

I’m not trying to be pernickety but as much as the three of us love each other, moving from a 2600 square foot house to a 100 square foot holiday trailer could prove to be interesting not to mention somewhat challenging. Pumpkin is not going to be the least bit impressed with our new living arrangement and temporary digs.

I have to keep reminding myself, the key word here is “temporary”. Our new, more permanent place is just around the corner. In the meantime maybe I should try and teach Pumpkin how to hold a pen in her paw and write in a journal so the three of us will have a way to maintain our sanity while living in such close proximity. Leaving it on the page. Freedom Writers.

I'm glad you took some time out to relax and see the movie! I knew you'd love it! Probably just what you needed to help lift your spirits a little.
