The amount of counsellors practicing in this town is now at the point of being downright ridiculous. How can we possibly all stay afloat?
As it is now there is a higher and higher price tag to maintain any kind of position in the advertising market, and advertising is almost a necessity, unless one is plugged in with some insurance companies, or cheek to cheek with some doctors who are willing to refer clients your way.
Without those “ins,” aggressive marketing strategies and advertising is just about the only other promising avenue especially since counselling is not one of those things that people are all “gong-ho” to go out and talk about.
A lot of people don’t want anyone else to know they experienced a rough time and even less that they sought someone out to help them deal with it. That’s the sad part of our society.
There’s not nearly as much hesitation when it comes to spending money on tanning sessions, tattoos, new wardrobes, travel, drinking, smoking, eating out, hockey or football tickets, plasma TV’s, IPhone’s or any of the other hundreds of electronic gadgets people need to have these days.
People don’t hesitate to do regular maintenance on their cars knowing it’s necessary to look after it or it will break down, but, when it comes to their emotional and psychological well-being, that’s always last on the list of priorities of what they can afford.
