Updates

I've lost another 1.2 pounds this week for a total of 12 so far - and wouldn't you know it, Mom is doing better!

It was touch and go for her for a few days. We weren't sure she was going to pull through this one but she did. She's on the mend. This Norwalk flu (it was discovered to be) took a few notches out of everyone in there. The residents still aren't allowed out of their rooms into the big dining room.

Mom is back to eating now so she should pick up from where she's at but every time something like this happens to her, even though she bounces back, she never bounces back as quickly and never regains what she had before.

One of us has been over to help out with Mom both at lunch and supper time every day since she got sick about 10 days ago. My brother came down from Alberta on Friday and he's been helping out with Mom too so that's been a big help. I think just the fact that one of us was there to give her more one-on-one care and get her to drink as much as we could helped to keep her hydrated enough to make it through. Not that the staff there hasn't done their darn best but when there's only two staff members on duty to look after 15 very sick residents they can't keep up.

On another note. Here's something I could have pretty much told you but I found myself learning the hard way. Dropping a can of pop on the keyboard of a laptop computer is something that's not too healthy for the system. Yep, that's what I did. Next to dropping my brand spanking new $100 textbook in the bathtub one night, this is another one of those things that falls under the, "dumbest things I ever did category."

Luckily I didn't fry my computer but I did fry my keyboard. The plus side of that, (I always gotta find one), is I've learned how to remove and re-install a keyboard on a laptop and the good news, (as I type this with my temporary big clunky external keyboard), is that there's a brand new keyboard in the mail and on its way.

This is what Pumpkin looked like when she witnessed what I did.

CONGRATULATIONS! 12 lbs lighter and kicking butt! You never fail to amaze mE with your determination.
Blessings for your mom's recovery also. Yes, being there to keep sips of liquids in her most likely had alot to do with her being able to fight back. You are each a special blessing in her life.
Finally I hope things begin to ease up a bit around there. Can't fool mE.......that is NOT Pumpkin!
The look maybe but not the one I remember so well. Good luck with the keyboard. I have often wondered if I did that what would happen. Now I know!
Take care and keep up the good work.

I figured I wouldn't be able to fool you! You're right - it's not Pumpkin but it's pretty close to what she looked like when she heard me scream. Thanks for the kuddos.
