I brought a pair of jeans to the seamstress at the mall so she could shorten them for me. “How much,” she asked. “I want a 26 and three quarter inseam,” I responded. I don’t know why that came out of my mouth. Maybe I “want” should have clued me in - I’ve always had my pants shortened to a 26 and a half inseam why did I think it would be any different now? Why add 1/4 inch to the measure I've always had? Was I hoping I had grown somehow? I walked out of there walking as tall as i could, but here’s what I learned. When your pants are too long you end up walking on them. That’s about as deep as it gets.
I’ve been trying to fit a haircut in for the past week or so and it hasn’t happened yet. Either I can’t get in, I don’t have the car, my day is already full or it’s Robert’s day off. I was fine a few days ago and the next morning when I got up all hell had broke loose. Every hair that were suppose to point East were pointing West and all those that were suppose to point West were pointing East and no amount of brushing would convince them otherwise. The only solution is to jump in the shower every morning. By the way, cream rinse – it’s the old two birds with one stone theory - that stuff works wonders to untangle the hair on my arms too.
This Thursday my partner and I, the one I share an office with, are doing a workshop for Caregivers here in Kelowna. It’s a ten to three kind of thing and we have an action packed day. I’m quite sure people will be laughing, crying, sharing, playing and all in all, having a good rejuvenating time. Lord knows caregivers need the time to unwind and share their worries and woes. I’ve been there, I know what it’s like.
So next week I’m off to a week-long retreat at a creek side, log cottage with a hot tub by the ocean on the Sunshine Coast. Someone booked one of my private retreats and her request, (one of my suggestions) was to do it out there on the Coast. I leave on Saturday the 15th and return the 21st. What’s that sound I hear? Is someone playing me a violin? I know, I know but keep in mind, I will be working and someone has to do it. Why not me?
Andree was held up at work the other day but I still haven’t figured out who was more stunned – her or the, would-be-robber. The guy walks up to her counter almost at closing time and says, “Are you still open?” After she said she was he drops a grocery bag on the counter and says, “Put the money in the bag.” Andree, thinking she hasn’t quite heard right asks him to repeat what he said. “Put the money in the bag,” he says as he motions to what looked like a gun barrel hidden under his shirt. Andree says, “You’re kidding.” He repeats. “No, I’m not kidding. Put the money in the bag.” By this time Andree is getting mad, she stares him down and opens the drawer and says look, I have no money. I just went to make a deposit. I don’t have any money to give you.” By this time the guy is getting fidgety and he’s not quite sure what to do anymore and this time he says. “You’re kidding – you have no money?” (Which was not true at all.) Andree repeats. “No, I told you already. I have nothing to give you.” So the guy is standing there looking stupid not quite knowing what to do next. So he takes off and shouts back – “it was just a joke anyway.” A joke my ass! Excuse the language, buts sometimes you gotta say it like it is.
Someone or many someone’s have been going around stealing around here too. All week long when we looked out into the distance it was easy to see the mountains had almost all disappeared. The thieves made off with most of them. They only left those behind that are closer to the edge of the city. Most likely they were thinking they would be spotted if they made off with those. But today, from what I can see at my window, I see that the gray misty clouds that hovered around have lifted. I’ll have to get out there and check if the thieves brought a mountain or two back.
Well, enough rambling on, I’m off to have me some breakfast and go check on those mountains plus another few things. By the way - I’m starting the course “A Room to Write” on Monday if anyone is interested in jumping in.

Hi Annette,
I hope Andree's alright after such a scary encounter with a robber. My youngest son was robbed once, a gun held to his head, when leaving the Blockbuster store he worked at in Abbotsford. He still carries the scars. The sunshine coast!! I was just talking about it the other day and saying I would like to live there for a couple of years and see if I liked it. I have never been there but I would very much like to go and see it. Enjoy your time there. Sounds like your business is taking off and you are going to be very busy once the word gets around. Good for you Annette.
love always,
Phillis xoxoxoxo
