I got two of those lately. How awesome is that!
Last week, I opened my mail box and tucked in among the usual armload of announcements, flyers, and bills was a neat little parcel. I got to the house in 15 steps instead of 30, dumped everything on the cupboard except for the parcel, pulled the scissors out from the jar of soup spoons and spatulas, and with the precision of a plastic surgeon carefully cut my way into the packaging so as not to in any way harm the mystery content. I was doing the best I could to take it all in stride, but inside, I was like a kid with a “kinder surprise.”
The treasure – a handcrafted card called “Inhaling the Spirit” filled with touching words from the heart of a friend and with it a beautifully wrapped package in bright colourful paper and all neatly tied with a specially made ribbon. I hated the thought of ruining this wonderful work of art. I hesitated, savouring the whole experience and honouring this special work of art for as long as I could and by the time the second hand had made its way around the clock, I had ripped it open.
Inside - a little blue book called “The Wynne Diaries,” 1789-1820. On the second page it is written. “These journals of Elizabeth Fremantle, nee Wynne, have been edited for John Fremantle and Adam Fremantle, her great, great, great, grandsons.” I feel like I have been given license to step into the private lives of people who lived almost two centuries ago. I can’t help but wonder, as I read the dated entries, if the grandsons realize just how fortunate they are to get a glimpse into their ancestor’s lives.
This week, I took a friend out for lunch on her birthday and when I took her home I felt like the tables were turned and it was my birthday. Lying on her kitchen table was this beautiful piece of art that you see in the picture above. I was floored! The Inner Pathways logo, which represents the natural flow of a person - perfect in its imperfection, is made out of dark blue stained glass imbedded in special concrete. She is beautiful and will soon be part of my office in some special way, but for now I am keeping her at home where I get to savour her and show her off to friends and family.
Unexpected gifts, aren’t they a treasure? Aren’t - they just the darn best!

Unexpected gifts are the best. A friend so thoughtful as to make an individual gift that represnts the person to whom the gift is given. Both gifts are you to a tee. Appreciation from others is a great gift and sometimes it is expressed in a special gift. You deserve all that and more my friend.
love always,
Phillis xoxoxoxo
Sounds like an interesting diary!
Lucky you. You deserve gifts. Enjoy them.
