Uncle Tom’s Cabin

That’s where I would like to be – in Uncle Tom’s cabin in the far recesses of the bush where I can put another log on the fire and curl up in a comfy rocking chair, a book in my hands and Pumpkin purring on my lap.

When I’m tired of reading, I’ll take a couple of steps to my writing desk which sits by the window where the sun is streaming in and lighting up my page and there I will follow my thoughts as they meander through my mind. I will have time to reflect on the meaning of what comes through the pen and to delve into the conscious and unconscious.

Once my words have all spilled out of me and I feel totally empty I’ll step into my hiking boots, pull on my cap and jacket and enter the beauty of nature, which surrounds me. I’ll have time to smell the trees and feel the dew drops on my fingers as I bend down to touch the mossy carpet covering the fallen ones.

I will hear the sound of the leaves as they crunch under my feet and the cry of the eagle as he greets me from above. I’ll stand tall, breathe deeply into my lungs, and taste the moisture in the clean mountain air settling in on the back of my throat.

I’ll turn to the West where the sun is contemplating its decent and then to the east where the moon is rising to take its place. I will feast my eyes on all the tree people, the rock people, and the animal people I can see, while visualizing all the ones who are watching me but who choose to remain in the distance, and I will express my gratitude for having the chance to be part of it all.

On my way back to my cabin I will appreciate being free of worry of how to make it out there in the urban world of competition, business, making, spending, producing, acquiring, doing, meetings, and the constant back and forth required to survive from one day to the next. I will let it all go as I rest my hand on the latch of the door and swing it open to re-enter my quiet space where I can relax and allow myself to just be, in Uncle Tom’s cabin.

I'm right there with you Annette. Walking around the lake and in Nature while the world outside this haven moves on as usual. We know we have to return eventually (or do we?) but we jump at the chance to interact with Nature, the pen, our journal and self in such a gental place. "It's all Good"

love always,

You "touched" on all the right places writing this one Annette! I kept drifting back to that "stove pipe" cabin on Gypsy land where we all visited together.
Included in that picture is your inner child swinging on that old wooden gate to close it behind us when we were leaving.
Thank you for allowing us to visit "Uncle Tom's Cabin" with you.......
