Chill Out

That’s what I keep telling myself this morning as I try to keep up with my mind that’s jumping around like a kangaroo crossing over a hot bed of coals. “Chill out man! It will all come together. You’ll figure it out just take it one step at a time”. Or, and here’s a novel idea, “maybe you should try writing.” Don’t you hate it when those voices come back to haunt you and you know they’re right.

So I went to my journal, and now I’m here and in between I’ve been making notes in my scribbler sitting right next to my computer. Call the lady in Windfield about the workshops, call the doc’s office and the bank with a change of address, change the answering machine message, measure the frame and call the framing place.

I need to jot all the thoughts down, get rid of them so they won’t keep floating around in my head and clogging up my system. Flush out all the stuff that sits there demanding attention in order to obtain clear sailing. A mind detox that’s what I call it. There’s no other way to straighten myself out.
I had a wonderful time in Edmonton. I enjoyed my trip and everything about it from seeing my girls and my grandchildren to the fun and great food we shared together, to reading a piece of my writing at an open mic night at the Carrot Community Arts Coffee House. That’s a pretty cool happening little place.

Check it out at:
http://artsontheave.org/thecarrot. It was created for community members and artists to hang out, be seen and be heard but it’s open to anyone who wants to drop in. It’s all run by volunteers and both times I went in, the place was buzzing with activity. So if any of you are ever out in that neck of the woods, make sure you drop in.

Coming back to my trip. By the time I boarded the plane in Kelowna darkness had already claimed the sky but I got to enjoy the city lights upon take off and landing. On my return flight the skies were clear and the sun was beaming and reflecting off the wings of the brand new West Jet plane, so much so that I had to dig out my sun glasses and clip them on.

My eyes were riveted to the window, the view.....breathtaking. The mountains look absolutely magnificent with their coat of fresh snow that sparkles in the sun. They go on and on as far as the eye can see, all sizes, shapes and colors. It is absolutely beautiful and perhaps the most beautiful part of all is that it is uncharted territory - untouched by man, exquisite in its simplicity and beauty.

Welcome home Annette. I am drooling over the coffee house you spoke of. Your description of the mountains tugged at my old heart.
When we few over I kept looking for just one wolf or a pack, as if my old eyes could spot them. Here and there an untouched Fir or Pine planted ever so firmly against Mother Earth's breast. Sweet memories!
So glad you enjoyed your family time which I am sure ended all too soon. It really sucks when we have to get back to businees as usual.
Time to wake up and get on with it. Over time you would not want it to be any other way.......

It's like being on a windup toy that is wound so tight we can't seem to stop it long enough to catch our breath. Ever watching, doing, thinking and no time to just look at whats around us. I wonder could a person put aside an hour a day for this magic to happen? Just to sit and think, write, walk, dream, read or enjoy a long hot bath?? One hour a day. Not a lot to ask, or is it? Can we find it??? Sometimes the answer is no, sometimes the answer is yes. We just scurry on until the chaos slows down enough to even plan such an event. I too love flying over the mountains and your right about the different colours and shapes. Even driving through them they feel so wonderful and spiritual. They are so magical. Sure glad you had a great time with your family and what an exciting spot that coffee house sounds like. Nola gave me a tape from the library once that was all about women reading their own words. Moved me to tears watching the video. I would be an absolute lost cause if I ever heard their words in real and to read my own words?? It sure sounds couragous to me. I will have to check it out. Take care my friend. Put up a white flag every once in a while and take a few minutes for just you.

love always,
