As One Would Say

Well, I “aced it”, as Nola would say. I went in to school yesterday, and to my surprise, my project was already corrected and marked and waiting to be picked up. “You have a big brown envelope with your project in it on the desk there Annette” the receptionist said before she walked out the door. I walked over to it, looked at my name written on it, felt it to make sure that’s what was inside, then walked away and continued to do my cleaning.

I was scared to open it partly because the project I did and what I wrote is so close to my heart and partly because I have never had this instructor, who is an English teacher and who is also the school’s registrar and has never marked anything of mine, so I was apprehensive and a little nervous about ripping that envelope open. But, it was good. I got docked marks because I didn’t use, according to her, proper citations, but according to me, I didn’t need them as it wasn’t a thesis paper it was an actual workshop. “Whatever”, as Jody would say. It’s time to move on to the exam – but not before I take the day off!

I had good intentions to head out for my walk this morning but when I got up it was a chilly 12 degrees in the house. The furnace quit and the repair guy has been here for almost two hours and I’m getting really nervous about that – not at all good news on a student’s salary but what else could we do?

We are still showing the house, since a second offer would activate the 48 hour clause and force the first offer to go through and we have a showing this afternoon. Can’t very well show a house as a nice comfy home when the place is ice cold. I know the furnace needs to be serviced once in a while but why couldn’t “the while” be once we’ve moved on.

Today, I plan to, as I said, go for my walk, catch up to my emails, do some raking in the yard, and do some me stuff like reading a book just for fun and writing in my journal just for fun. Maybe I’ll take a ride out to Otter Lake and sit there and do some journaling in the company of the eagles swooping down and fishing for their afternoon lunch. Go out and do a “me” day, as I would say.

BIG congratulations, Annette!!! Who cares about marks off for lack of citations. It's the meat of the matter that counts, eh? You did SO good!

Annette, I wouldnt want the registrar to mark any of my things either. lol .As Paula said, the heck with citations, its all about the content! I wish you well (not that you need it) for the final exam. I would love to come and check out the spectacular eagles. It must be a sight to see.

Thank you Paula and Laura. It's great to see your comments. I love reading those who come here.
Laura - the registrar is the one who marks the exams too. I haven't started yet. Will get on it this weekend.

Now, that's an English teacher for you...has to find some reason (like improper citations) not to give a student 100%...this is sort of tongue-in-cheek as my best friend is an English teacher :)
What's this raking stuff all about anyway...we're just able to see bare roads now; mounds of snow still on lawns.
Hope you had a great ME day!!!
take care...pat
