100 and Counting

This morning I started journal #100. In honor of this landmark I splurged on a journal I found in a shop the other day. I walked through the door spotted this journal, went to it, picked it up and immediately claimed it as my own. Here’s a picture of it. The artist’s name is Liliana Kleiner from Salt Spring Island, BC.

Who would have thought that when I decided to start keeping my journals and I turned the page and wrote # 1, that I would, years later, turn the page and write #100. One day maybe I will line them up on a book shelf and stand back to see what they look like standing next to each other like little soldiers who have gone to war for me. They’ve marched through life with me, bearing witness to my hopes, dreams, fears, hurts, joys triumphs and love.

It’s funny how I’ve changed over the years. In the beginning I used to look for different places to hide my journals. I was always fearful someone would read my words and judge me, or worse yet, be hurt by what I had written. I don’t have that fear anymore. Now I leave my journal wherever. If you should choose to pick it up and flip it open then you should be prepared to deal with what you read.

What I’ve come to realize is expression changes me. Who I was when I sat down to write those words is not who I am once I finish writing - for it’s in the writing that change occurs and my moment gets transformed. Makes me think I’ll just have to keep on writing.

Hi Annette:
This journal shouts your name! I could feel it too. So unique, strong, different. I absoulutly love it.
You are such an inspiration, not only to mE, but all of us to keep on writing as we live out our days
Best of life & living with #100. Must try for at least 50 more after the last page is written here.
It never ends until it is over and then we silently live on again.

Love,
Barbara

Wow!! I've been writing for almost two years now and have filled or partially filled about six journals. When I go back to read them, I hardly know myself. I am so happy that I have become a writer. I love your new journal. Happy 100 !!

love always,
Phillis

I belive this quote fits here!

By words the mind is winged. -Aristophanes, dramatist (c. 448-385 BCE)

Congratulations, Annette, that is a big mile stone. I love the new journal and totally understand why you were drawn to it. A great gift to self.

In our recent journaling workshop, I noticed that you only wrote on one side of each sheet/page. Is this what you did in all 99 you've written? Just curious. I write on both sides, want to fit as much into the one book as possible, lol.

Hi Alice. Actually no, this is the first time ever I do that and I only started doing it half way through my journal. The reason being the paper was so thin the ink showed through to the other side of the page and it got very confusing as you can well imagine.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I can't quite believe I have that many journals myself.
