Dear Emily:

Here we are at the start of a brand new week in this snowy month of December. Yep, we have to go out there and shovel again this morning. It sure looks pretty though this fluffy white blanket that covers absolutely everything in sight.

Have you ever noticed how it’s quiet after a snowfall? Sounds are muffled and subdued and different then they usually are. Even when I travel in the car it’s different. The sound of the tires on the snow packed streets has a hollow peaceful kind of sound. It’s like driving through a tunnel and hearing the echo of your own car as it travels through but none of the noises of the outside world.

After that I’ll be off to school. Hopefully the plows have been out there and the roads are in fairly good shape. Traveling time is slower now that winter has decided to drop in for an extended visit. That’s the thing about winter – we never know for sure how long it will bless us with its beauty and its company.

One thing about all this fresh snow is it sure makes it easy to see where the deer have come through during the early morning hours while we were still rubbing the sleep out of our eyes. Sometimes they stick around long enough to let us enjoy their company.

So Friday marked the end of the course I was in (which I haven’t got a mark for yet) and today is the start of a new one. This next course is called, Application of Personality Theories. I’m looking forward to this course as it covers all the different counselling theories and will help us decide which is best suited for who we are and the beliefs we operate from as counselors.

Here’s a list of the therapies we will look at: Person Centered Therapy, Carl Jung Philosophy, Existential Therapy, Adlerian Psychotherapy, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy, Neurolinguistic Programming, Choice Therapy and Reality Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy, Behavioral Therapy and Family Systems Therapy. Most of these we have been exposed to already. Now we will be looking at them side by side and deciding which approach or more than likely, combination of approaches we will base our practice on.

I’m not to keen on this next instructor but I’m going in with an open mind and setting myself up to have a very beneficial and fun filled three weeks. That’s the intention I’m setting and going to leave here with today. It’s weird the way our time for this course is set up though. We have two weeks of classes and then we have a two week break for Xmas and we finish the last week only after the New Year.

I’m not sure how that will work in terms of the course but one thing I know for sure is I’m sure looking forward to that two week break. Hope your week is going well and you’re not too cold up there in the North. How’s the snow your way?

Writefully Yours,
Annette
