Bring It On

You know I love birds but God Almighty I hate magpies! What was the Creator thinking equipping that bird with such an annoying voice box? Very few things make me lose my cool in the morning which is my favourite part of the day – except for those annoying creatures endlessly squawking away. Once they get going there seems to be no stopping them. It’s as if they have center stage and they got a hold of some Karaoke machine. That, or else they have some kind of built-in microphone with a woofer system attached to it. I wonder if I could still make myself a sling shot.

Well someone opened the tap and the heat is on. We climbed to 25C which is 77F yesterday and today we are going to 31C or 88F depending on what a person is used to. It wasn’t a gradual climb up the old mercury as we’ve had unusually cooler temperatures in the Okanagan so it feels like we didn’t have time to get used to it, but yesterday summer definitely decided to drop in.

By mid afternoon our little house trailer had heated up like a griddle on a barbecue. The good part is the nights are still cool so by leaving every window open all night long we can cool the place off pretty good. We do have a little air conditioning window unit which we can resort to when we hit the 40’s or somewhere up there in the 100’s. I imagine we could fry an egg on the griddle without turning on the burner by then.

I managed to inch my way across two more chapters of my course this week which means I’ve manoeuvred myself a little more than half way through my book now. I can’t wait for this one to bite the dust. I hope the next course I take, if I ever get there, will be a little more interesting to assimilate. This one feels like I’m stuffing a rag down my throat. Sometimes I wish I wouldn’t have reached in and rescued my text book from the bathtub. Maybe when I’m done I’ll go for another bath and drown it.

The May long weekend is supposed to be one of the busiest weekends here in Kelowna. Here’s a clip from our local online paper.
The Knox Mountain Hill climb, is the longest running paved hill climb event in the world testing cars and drivers on a paved road course of ten major turns, climbing 800 vertical feet over 2.2 miles and is organized annually on the May Long Weekend.

It’s a pretty noisy event. Luckily I live at the other end of town and I plan to stay in my little corner where the noise level won’t be quite so high. We don’t have any big plans for this holiday weekend but come Tuesday we’re heading out to Golden BC. I’m going to check out a place called Quantum Leap Lodge where I hope to go give a writing workshop weekend sometime in the near future. It sounds like an awesome place so I’m really looking forward to the trip out there and finding out more about this place. Maybe it will become a regular for me. Wouldn’t that be grand! I want more of that kind of thing. Bring it on!

Hi Annette,

It's hot here in Alberta too. Very windy yesterday and feels sometimes like we live in a dust bowl out of the depression era. I hope the leaves leaf out soon to collect some of the dust that permiates the air here. But I love it. Warm, wind, dust anything is better than the winter I just went through. The lodge in Golden sounds wonderful. I wonder if it is the same one Pat stayed at on her adventure? Keep studying. All the book learning brings you to the place you need to be. The classroom, the retreats, the collection of women's words......

love awlays,

Hi Annette:
You just might have to inquire about that "cool seal" I was telling you about for your roof. These babies do get hot out in the summer sun. (;-(
Isn't Golden where the wolf preserve is located? Sounds familar from the last time we gsthered.
Keep your cool on and keep up the good work.
Barbara

Thank you for dropping by and taking the time to comment. I always enjoy checking back and seeing some words added to my own. And thank you for the continuous support and encouragement. What would I do without people like you in my life. I am grateful.
