It’s a good thing there was only one gown and we had to take turns hopping in and out of it for pictures. Can you imagine a whole slew of us prancing around the room in that getup! It would have been like landing smack in the middle of the filming of “The Penguin” movie. Penguin or not, I do look like a pretty proud graduate with that grin, don’t you think?
And here’s a picture with the person I couldn’t have done it without, sitting beside me, eating a fine dinner. She encouraged me, believed in me and stood beside me as I piled in those 16 University courses in one year.

Good God! 55 years old just graduating and looking at starting a career. Shouldn’t I be thinking about retirement right about now? It was a tough but rewarding year and I’m darn glad I journeyed through it but now the trick will be to go somewhere with it. Most of my efforts lately have been geared towards finding us a home and the whole business thing kind of took a turn and went on the back burner. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs kind of takes over. It’s a little difficult to think about setting up shop when you don’t have a roof over your head.
But now that the housing problem is almost over I have to start looking at where I want to go with this and how do I make it happen? I’ve never been very good at the promoting myself. I hate that part. I’d much rather do the work I want to do and let someone else worry about the researching/marketing part but unfortunately starting up a business doesn’t just happen on its own. Darn details!
Being that our new home is now going to be in Kelowna I also have to wrap my brain around a whole different market and way of going about things. Who knows, in the end it might prove to be the better place business wise. I’m not sure. But one thing is for sure. As soon as we’re set up in our new digs I will be starting on my Bachelor degree with Canyon College. Maybe by next summer or next fall I’ll land another one of those little diploma scrolls. This one I vowed I would pick up in person. Watch out Idaho. Here I come!

Wow Mom, a great big congratulations to you! You look so happy in your grad get up and you should be! It's sure been an uphill battle for you but you got there and I couldn't be more proud of you!
I think there are quite a few of us who appear to have done things "backwards" -- me I lazed about most of my twenties, started raising kids in my thirties, and entered my meant-to-be profession in my forties. It's a bit late to start saving for my retirement but what choice do I have? Anyway there's no point in worrying about that now; it felt right at the time, and one has just gotta keep on taking things as they come.
Congratulations on the graduation and thanks for posting the photos, it's always nice to have a look at you guys.
You look FANTASTIC in your cap and gown!! BOTH of you deserve a LOUD congratulations!!! Thanks for the photos ... I really, really miss you guys.
Hugs to both of you,
Paula
WOOWEE! Way to go mom! You're an inspiration to many people for sticking with what is close to your heart! I never doubted that you could do it...you should be so proud! Now am I going to have to do one of those graduate paintings for you like I did for Karen? How many hats tall are you going to go for?!
Love you!
CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH OF YOU! You both look TERRIFIC! One hell of a winning team in my book!
Warm hugs,
Freckles & mE

Great to hear from all of you who are checking in to my meanderings. Thank you for leaving your words along with mine. It means a lot to me and it's so much fun to see your names appear in the comments section. Kate - yes - many would think you and I have done things backwards but I think we got things right - at least it was right for us. I wouldn't want to be without my daughters even if there is lots I couldn't do and would have done if I had chosen a different path. I have no regrets either.
Congratulations Annette!! Yes, that grin says it all. 55 sounds young to me as here I am at 57 going for my "Master Gardeners" certificate through the University of Alberta. Just goes to show, it's never too late to follow your dreams. It's probably the perfect time right now. It's good to see you both. Again, Congratulations to you both!
love always,
Phillis
