Off to the Races

At least twice a week, old Betsy, even with all her shaking, rattling and spitting going on, manages to take me into the big city of Kelowna and deposit me at the school door.

I feel sorry for her sometimes especially when she’s sitting waiting at a red light in all her rusty splendor with a Mercedes Benz decked out in shinny chrome and blinding hub cabs sits on one side of her and a spiffy red convertible pulls up on the other side, both of them looking like they just drove off a dealer’s lot.

But, she seems to take it all in stride and relies on me to be on the ball with split second accuracy to step on the gas before the drivers of her counterparts have a chance to blink or put their brains into gear.

At that point she clears her throat and lunges forward like a prize fighter let out of the ring. That’s when I see her smile spread from headlight to headlight and I hear a chuckle escape from under her spotted hood.

So I better hurry up, get out there and fuel old Betsy before the gas station decides to jack up the prices to the ghastly $108.9 I saw posted in the neighboring town of Vernon yesterday.

Gee, I wonder how we can tell we are approaching tourist season and the Easter weekend!

Never mind Betsy...that Mercedes Benz and that spiffy red convertible will be old, rusty, and huff and puff one day too!!!!
I don't understand either why gas prices need to get hiked just before every long weekend...lining somebody's pocket.
cheers...pat

and don't forget, the "owners" of that Mercedes and that convertible are probably paying hundreds of dollars in either car loans or lease payments every month, while that's a debt you do not have!
