The Creator
I talked to a friend last night and she wasn’t doing very well. Even if we don’t talk on the phone often, I could tell within the first few words of our conversation that things weren’t right for her. I wanted to say so much more but sometimes a person has to tread carefully and it felt like this was one of those times. All I could do was move gently with my words while extending my heart on every other level. All I could do was hope that some word, some thought, some little smidgen of caring energy would reach across the miles, touch her, support her, and let her know she didn’t have to be alone in the world with her fears.
The holidays can be such a difficult time for some. What one feels inside is sometimes a huge contrast with all the hoopla and cheer that’s going on outside and people who are already hurting often feel even more alone and separate then ever. It’s like standing in the middle of a crowd with our heart ripped open and not being seen or heard. We are hurt and we feel separate and alone and like the turtle that crawls into its shell, we retrieve inside ourselves. The sad part is that in our search for safety and security we create more of the very separateness we fear.
Shutting the world out feels like our only avenue when what we really need is to reach out even more. Hopefully, within the confines of our shell and the armor with which we keep everyone at bay, a sliver of light will somehow work its way through and help us find our way back to our hearts and to our essence which is not fear but love. And hopefully we will somehow find enough courage to slowly poke our heads out of our shell and realize we don’t have to remain there. We can reach out and we can risk and we can become the “architect of our lives”.
It takes a lot of courage and a lot of strength for us to decide to crawl out of the darkness into the light and to choose to be. To choose to face our struggles and to form our own definition of who we are instead of allowing others to define our existence. From what I can figure out, there are always people lined up ready to help us on our way but the trick is we have to choose. No one else can do this part for us. Ultimately we have to be the ones to choose.
So here’s what I’m asking. Please help everyone among us. who touch on those moments of despair, to reach towards the light. Help us to touch the love that is inherently a part of us and which ultimately forms the basis of who we are. Help us touch it within ourselves and extend it to others in need.
Writefully Yours
Annette
